Candied Walnuts

1 pound walnuts
2 egg whites
1 T. water
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 t. salt




Mix egg whites and water.  Stir this into the walnuts, coating all nuts well.  Add sugar and salt, mix.  Lightly spray cookie sheet with cooking spray or use parchment paper.  Lay out the nuts, flat on the pan.  Bake in a 300 degree oven for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Options:  Add 1/2 t. cinnamon or 1/4 t. smoked paprika to the sugar.  Mix in well.

I can almost smell how yummy these must be when cooking mmmm :-)

My grandmother used to make these from the walnuts which grew on the trees in her yard. They were a regular snack at Thanksgiving dinner.
