Chili

3 T. oil
1 1/2 pounds ground beef or turkey
1 t. salt
1 onion - chopped
3 cloves garlic - minced
2 t. chili powder
2 t. ground cumin
1 t. dried oregano
1/2 t. ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 cup water
1 - 28 oz. can crushed fire-roasted tomatoes
2 T. tomato paste
2 T. honey
2 - 15 oz. cans of black beans - drained and rinsed
1 T. lime juice
Heat 1 T. oil, add ground beef and brown.
Transfer meat, using a slotted spoon, to a small bowl.
Sprinkle with salt and set aside.
Drain liquid from pot, add remaining oil and saute onion until soft.
Add garlic and saute another minute.
Stir in chili powder, cumin, oregano, and cinnamon.
Cook 1 minute.
Add broth, water, beef, tomatoes, tomato paste, and honey.
Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour.
Add beans and lime juice, cook another 5 minutes.

Along with cornbread... A delicious meal!

wow, it was on my mind to make chili today - the weather is perfect for it! and an easy thing to make for watching the football game too. I love that you add lime juice, I add a bit of that too, it really adds something. I've never tried adding oregano though, but I have lots that I dried from summer, so I'm going to throw some in. happy Sunday to you Joan.
